THE EXPERIENCE

Nature. Sports. Learning. Arts.
Whatever your passion, you can pursue it in Southwood.

Imagine your life here

As a music lover

As the former site of Winnipeg’s oldest golf course, this land has hundreds of mature trees growing in small forest groves, and the site plan retains these natural assets. New buildings will be surrounded by old-growth beauty, from the very first day of occupancy. Respect for the natural world will go beyond beautiful landscaping. This will be a place where the environmental impact of all community infrastructure is considered, from GHG emissions to water systems.

One million square feet of recreation and fitness space are located just south of the development site, in the campus’s central sport and active living zone. No other area in Winnipeg has such a comprehensive range of facilities available.

The most well-known sports venue is IG Field, home stadium of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the University of Manitoba Bisons. Nearby are more sports facilities, including University Stadium, the Winnipeg Indoor Soccer Complex and two outdoor sports fields.

For fitness, the hub is the Active Living Centre, a 100,000-square-foot facility with state-of-the-art training equipment and track. Also on campus are racquetball, tennis and squash courts, an indoor pool, sports medicine facilities, a gymnasium and rentable sports venues.

Healthcare Services

Less than a kilometre from Southwood is Victoria General Hospital, which offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including Urgent Care.

Near the hospital is ACCESS Fort Garry, a centre offering primary care, mental health services and other community health programming. A walk-in Connected Care clinic staffed by nurse practitioners operates weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

Core Campus

Next door to this development site is the main campus of the University of Manitoba, the province’s largest and most research-intensive university. Southwood Circle is the next logical step in a series of projects are inviting the public in to enjoy the university’s many assets.

In addition to a wide range of degree and post-graduate programs, UM is committed to life-long learning. Many lectures, continuing education programs and cultural events are open to the community year-round.

Smartpack

Across the road from Southwood Circle is SmartPark Research and Technology Park, home base for a new wave of knowledge-based enterprises. The 10 buildings on site host well-known tenants like Bayer Crop Science, North Forge Technology Exchange and the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals, as well as 10 commercialized start-ups. Together, these tenants employ 1,500 people. This workforce will grow as development continues across the 100-acre site.
